Canberra District Shiraz
Though the Barossa boasts the world’s oldest Shiraz vines, the story of Canberra District Shiraz is still being written.
Here, vines cling to sub-alpine foothills beneath vast open skies, set against parchment-yellow plains of the tablelands. The growing season is long, the ripening conditions cool—perfect for crafting wines of elegance and restraint.
Canberra Shiraz is defined by perfume and poise: smouldering spiced fruits woven through a frame that marries delicacy with depth. Vineyards crest hills and escarpments, their soils ranging from ancient granite and gravel to rich red loams that lend weight, texture, and contrast to the region’s celebrated high-toned style.
On our Louis list, we highlight a triptych of producers from Canberra’s dress circle. Some show the savoury complexity of age, others the pure finesse of youth—but all capture the fragrance and character of the region.
Leading these estates are three icons: Bryan Martin at Ravensworth, Tim Kirk of Clonakilla, and Alex McKay of Collector Wines.
